Food Day at Samaritan Center - Lebanon
Farmers and other local food producers will display their products and share samples with the public, and food-related organizations such as the OSU Extension Master Food Preservers will staff information tables. Products for sale will include cheese, bread, frozen blueberries, honey, garden seeds, pickles, and jams as well as fresh produce. Farmers with CSAs (“community-supported agriculture,” or subscription food boxes) will describe their offerings and sign up new customers. Outside of the building, a children's area will feature wheat grinding, nut cracking, and apple peeling.
This will be Lebanon’s third Food Day—an annual event that got skipped last year as the East Linn chapter of Ten Rivers Food Web began its transformation to the independent Santiam Food Alliance, a community organization dedicated to sharing the joy of healthful, locally grown food in the area encompassing Lebanon, Sweet Home, and Scio. Since the last Food Day celebration, in 2012, “there are more local foods available, and more ways to get them,” says Betty Goergen, who has been signing up vendors. “People who come to Food Day will be amazed at the variety of foods that their neighbors are producing.”
