Americans with Disabilities Act
Nearly 19 million U.S. residents – 10 percent of those ages 18 through 64 – identified as disabled in 2008. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, about 264,000 of them were Oregonians. At some time, most employers will be faces with accommodating an employee with a disability.
This session will cover the Americans with Disabilities Act and Oregon’s disability laws, the employer’s responsibility to provide accommodation to an employee with a disability, and practical tips and resources for employers.
Jeff Burgess is a Program Coordinator with BOLI's Technical Assistance for Employers Program. Jeff was previously a BOLI case presenter. He has a BA in Law and Society and Business Economics and a law degree from the University of Missippi School of Law. Jeff conducts seminars on Oregon employment laws, writes newspaper columns and handbooks, and responds to employer inquires about wage and hour and civil rights laws
