Wage and Hour Laws
My employees refuse to take a break. Is that ok? If an employee does not turn in his time card, do I still have to pay him? Does it violate any law if I need to have an employee work through lunch? Many wage and hour law claims occur because the supervisor did not know the law. This session will focus on the information which is essential knowledge for new and experienced supervisors. Topics include: meal and break periods, timekeeping, overtime, travel time, preparatory and concluding activities, payroll deductions, exempt vs. non-exempt employees, final paychecks, and more!
Dylan Morgan is a Program Coordinator with BOLI’s Technical Assistance for Employers Program (TA). As a former Compliance Specialist with the Wage and Hour Division, Dylan brings a wealth of practical experience to his seminars on Worker Classification, Wage and Hour Laws, Payroll Issues, and Recordkeeping Requirements. Dylan’s most recent work includes creating and editing a number of employment law handbooks for employers. He has also contributed several pieces to TA’s advice column series and TA’s online fact sheet/FAQ collection. When he is not conducting seminars, Dylan can usually be found researching and responding to email and telephone inquiries from the business community.
