Calapooia Food Alliance - Moonlight & Music
|
July 29 Moonlight & Music puts it all together! The good folks of the greater Brownsville community have waited a long time for this and its finally happening! Ordinary citizens, food consumers (you know who you are) are getting it—people need food, farmers produce food. When local people buy fresh food from local farmers, wonderful things begin to happen! Not the least of those wonderful things is Moonlight and Music, the second annual mid-summer harvest festival that honors local farmers, ranchers, vintners, ciderers (I made that one up) and other local food producers by pairing local chef Scott Hurley of Linn Benton Community College fame and his army of sou-chefs with a stunningly delicious and healthy array of seasonal produce. Exotic East is the theme this year, so Japanese Sushi, Indonesian Sates and Vietnamese Spring Rolls are some of the imaginative ways that local produce from Oregon Country Farm, Sunset Lane Farm, Open Oak Farm, Green Leaf Acres (among others) will be prepared. Several wineries, including Mark’s Ridge, from the Willamette Valley Wineries Association will have available their special varieties of the fruit of the grape and the 2 Towns Ciderhouse guys will be offering up real apple ciders to whet your appetite—yes, finally, hard cider is being made once again in the Willamette Valley from Pacific Northwest apples! You may come for the moonlight and the music but the evening is really all about food, locally grown in fertile Willamette Valley soils, watered by clean plentiful rains and tenderly nurtured by a committed cadre of farmers with real dirt under their fingernails. We Americans, fascinated by any new thing have wandered further from traditional healthy and nutrition’s eating habits than any other culture—perhaps it began with those TV dinners wrapped in aluminum or powdered “Tang” designed for astronauts. Better living through chemistry? Hardly! Just check the label on any packaged food product, then get your tickets for the real thing—July 29th—Moonlight and Music. Come celebrate your local farmer and eat/drink local foods. Tickets are $25 for this event organized for you by the Calapooia Food Alliance, www.gocfa.org Buy your tickets at Brownsville’s Key Bank, the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market in Brownsville or call Tricia at 541 466 3035.
