This two part session will focus on care considerations for disenfranchised community members.
4:15p - 4:55 Part 1: Family Assistance and Resource Center (FAC) Street Outreach and Tips on Helping the Houseless - Shirley Byrd, Executive Director and Brock Byers, Project Manager Part 1 will acquaint faith community nurses (FCNs) and health ministers with care considerations when serving the unsheltered in our community and describe how the FCHN can refer individuals to these services and otherwise support these efforts. A guest will be on hand to share his story. After completing this session, attendees should be able to:
Describe, in general, FAC for the Homeless Street Outreach activities
List one way the FCHN team might support FAC efforts
5:10p-5:55p Part 2: Harm Reduction and Narcan - What does our FCHN team need to know?
Blue Valentine - Harm Reduction Outreach Specialist Part 2 will describe the principles of Harm Reduction, acquaint our FCHN team with overdose recognition and Naloxone use,and introduce the Naloxone toolkit for schools (which can be adapted to faith communities) (https://harmreduction.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/NHRC-PDF-Principles_Of_Harm_Reduction.pdf) After completing this session, attendees should be able to:
Explain, in general, what harm reduction is
Describe the purpose of the Naloxone toolkit and where to find it online
