Lebanon Historical Downtown Walk
Join the Lebanon Museum Foundation, Build Lebanon Trails, and the Lebanon Downtown Association for a winter walk into Lebanon’s past. Jeff Smith, a local historian, will be our tour guide for this free annual stroll, which will begin at Ralston Park at 2 pm. This year’s walk will include a tour of the Wells Fargo building, originally the Lebanon National Bank, built in 1910. We’ll see the old bank vaults, the second-floor board room that overlooks Main Street, and the bomb shelter in the basement. We will also visit an upstairs apartment under construction in the Courtney Block, and we will walk by two former Lebanon hospitals and talk about their history. We’ll end up at the MBVA building for coffee and treats. The walk will be a little more than a half-mile—plus about a quarter-mile back to Ralston Park, where you should arrive in plenty of time for the tree-lighting ceremony. (Be sure to make a quick stop at the old Teen Challenge building to see the Lebanon Museum’s booth there.) The walk will begin promptly at 2 pm. We’ll meet at the Build Lebanon Trails booth near the gazebo at Ralston Park. Please arrive early, especially if you need to find parking, because there will be other holiday festivities happening at the park. Also, before we leave you’ll need to sign a participation waiver and sign out a listening device so you don’t miss any of Jeff’s words. Dogs on leash are welcome but may not be allowed inside buildings. Restrooms are available at Ralston Park.
