Understanding Oregon?s Unemployment Insurance (UI) Program:
Now more than ever, employers should understand the Unemployment Insurance Benefit System and how it affects their businesses. This workshop will answer your questions regarding basic Unemployment Insurance and will include more detailed information about discharges. This basic, thorough overview covers a short Unemployment Insurance history, financing, eligibility and earnings, claim amounts and duration, notices to employers, form 220 and 197, relieving charges, claim issues, separations from work, non-separation issues, the eligibility decision process, unemployment insurance tax, and unemployment insurance fraud. There will be a special focus on separations through discharge and/or voluntary leaving. What do you do if you say your former employee quit, but he or she says they were discharged? Which separations are adjudicated, what is the legal difference between a discharge and voluntary leaving, and the laws and rules used to determine if benefits are payable will be discussed. In addition, you will learn what questions you should ask during the adjudication process and why.
